What if I don't own the conduit?
- If you are going to use locking plugs as leverage to get paid, you must do it professionally to avoid criminal liability or "tortious interference" claims.
- Use Professional Locking Plugs: This demonstrates that the system is preserved, not damaged.
- Be Transparent: Send a notification: "Work is 100% complete and testing was successful. System is currently secured with safety locks pending final account settlement. Unlocking and final turnover will be scheduled immediately upon receipt of payment."
- Pass the Mandrel Test First: You must prove the pipe is good before you lock it. If you lock it without proving it's clear (via a mandrel pull or air test), they will just assume you crushed the pipe and refuse to pay anyway.
